Taken It All

by Zoot Woman

I just can’t get with you
I just can’t get with you
Can’t you see?
You’ve taken soul from me
I can see I’ve been lost on the way

I just can’t get with you
there’s nothing left
just a view we cannot share

I always thought there’d be
a way for me and you

Can’t you see?
There’s something less to me
Never free
I let you move away

Can’t you see?
You’ve taken soul from me
Should have seen
Taken it out of me
Taken it all from me

Take This Job and Shove It

I’m making my last day at work Saturday June 30–my birthday. I vow to enter my 36th year will more control over what I will and will not put up with work-wise. I’m getting too old for the drama at work, and even though it pays better than any other part-time job I have held, it’s not worth it.

Now if I can just figure out how to say that without looking like a sore loser.

Conundrum

“1 : a riddle whose answer is or involves a pun
2 a : a question or problem having only a conjectural answer b : an intricate and difficult problem”

The irony of this situation is that I have been feeling better about working at the store in the last week or so. I feel better because now I know what Sarah has been up to, and that others have noticed it and are on my side. However, I’m only getting 9 hours a week, and right now, looking at budgets, it doesn’t seem there are enough hours for three part time people. Gina has school and other bills to pay, and Candice could use a couple more hours a week, too.

So, I’m trying to decide whether or not to hand in my notice within the next week.

Pros:

*more time for packing things
*less stress in general
*no more Sarah
*more hours for the other girls

Cons:

*no money coming in on this end
*more time to procrastinate

I dunno. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Unbelievble!

So, I decided to start getting the moving stuff–bills, particularly–done today. I called Bell to switch our phone service to Esso’s new address as of July 9, only to find out that Bell does not service that community. That’s right, Ma Bell does not offer any telecommunications services to Bruce County. This means Esso is going to have to set up a new account with them–I can’t do it. On the plus side, Bell *was* able to switch the existing account into my name and move it to my new address. They waived the $55 moving cost, and got me a great service package that will only cost me $5 more per month, too.

Rogers Cable, on the other hand, could not do the same. They made me sign up for my own account, and even did an immediate credit check on me. In fact, Rogers Cable couldn’t even let me cancel the account, even though my name is on it, because Esso is considered the sole person responsible for it financially (this also despite the fact that it’s usually me that makes sure the bills are paid). And oh, yeah, they don’t offer cable or internet in Bruce County, either. Yet another thing Esso is going to have to do on his own.

Even more compelling, the ONLY way to get phone and internet in the area is through Bruce Telecom, which boasts that its DSL lines get up to 3 Mbps. Um, I just checked, and my laptop’s internet connection (put through a router) gets 24 Mbps at the moment, and it’s not even the fastest service available around here. Poor Esso.

I can’t wait to see if I’m going to be able to cancel the gas and switch the hydro. Those are also in Esso’s name and not mine.

Things Are Heating Up

Okay, I finally cracked. After two day of intense heat (for the middle of May), I just, two seconds ago, switched on the Air Conditioning. I had intended to see how long I could stand it, because my new apartment will be in an attic, and unless I buy the previous tenant’s air conditioner, it’s going to be sweltering and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, I couldn’t last two days of 30 degree heat (that’s in Celsius for all you ‘murricans–think 84 Fahrenheit). God(dess?) help me.

Today, our mortgage broker was over to go over the terms of the new mortgage on Esso’s condo with me. Wow, this guy has worked miracles, because we are still going to have a good chunk of money with which to help me with school. I think I’m still going to have to seriously try to find something in order to deal with the financial situation. I have my heart set on the university library system, but if that doesn’t work, then I will try to at least do some seasonal stuff at Christmastime–preferably downtown or at the mall in the North end of the city, rather than the mall I have been working at. The last thing I need is to run into Wendie or Sarah. I could deal with running into Gina or Candice, but not them. I think it would be difficult to be polite.

I’m glad my baking kick sort of petered out before this heat wave, because it’s too hot to cook or do anything that requires the protective wearing of clothes. In heat like this, clothes should be optional. I can’t wait to be able to take a long soak in tepid water in my clawfoot tub.

Temptation

I’m not very good at controlling my impulsive nature sometimes…especially when it comes to DVDs or music. I am, I hesitate to admit, a bit of an iTunes junkie. I can find almost anything I want to hear, and have it legally downloaded within seconds.

Today, however, I managed to resist the impulse to buy Pan’s Labyrinth, a film I saw up at the university. I have been thinking about that film a lot since I saw it, and I think it is beautiful, heartbreaking, inspiring and so fucking good. Everyone who likes well-told stories (and doesn’t mind subtitles) should see this film.

It was a real wrench, leaving that box on the shelf, let me tell you. I wanted that movie in my collection sooo bad. However, I think Esso would be proud of me… 🙂

BTW, the Birthday countdown is on: only 38 days until my birthday…now you know what to get me. 😉

Thank You, Vicky!

Today is Victoria Day, a day we Canucks use as an excuse to drink until our livers threaten to explode along with the fireworks. Well, some of us, anyway.

In truth, it’s in tribute to good Queen Victoria. Back in 1867, Vic decided to allow Canada to convene her own parliament independent of Great Britain, thus, in essence, giving us our independence. May 24th was her birthday, and since then, we have celebrated the first long weekend in the summer before or on her birthday as a sort of “thank you.”

In my hometown, we celebrated with Calithumpian (a loud, discordant noise), and of course, fireworks were the highlight. There were a lot of sleepy-eyed kids in school the next day, until some partypoopers decided to switch the fireworks to the Sunday night instead of the Monday.

Right now, someone is setting off a fireworks display in my neighbourhood, despite the fact that it’s not even dark yet.

Buncha savages in this town.
